With the Six Nations fast approaching there has been calls from two high-profile internationals,  Paul O’Connell and Rob Kearney to revive the old Landsdowne spirit.

But following todays announcement of a Leinster dominated squad can the Irish rugby fans put provincial bias behind them for the good of the National team? The 34 man squad consists of 18 Leinster, 8 Ulster, 5 Munster, 1 Connacht, 1 Racing Metro and 1 Cardiff Blue which has already left some with a bitter taste in their mouth.

Ireland V Samoa – Terrace View Review

And so the Joe Schmidt era has begun. Ireland recorded a 40-9 win over Samoa with tries from, Peter O’Mahoney, Sean O’Brien, Fergus McFadden and 2 tries from debutant Dave Kearney earning the victory. There were plenty of errors from the home side and, as a result, the game took a while to get going but on the whole Schmidt can be pleased with the way the team finished off a tiring opposition. O’Driscoll Confirms Retirement

We all knew it was coming but part of me didn’t want to believe that BOD was actually going to call an end to his playing days. After being convinced by Leinster, Ireland and the fans to play on for one more year, O’Driscoll has today confirmed in the Irish Independent that this will be it. He said about his future :
