Why The RDS is Great!

Posted by Niall on September 12, 2014

Ahead of the first home game of the season it’s easy to get all mushy and emotional about the home of Leinster. All summer long we have waited to get back to the RDS and cheer on our team. Due to this – I have put together some of the things that make the RDS special for me! See you all Saturday!

Feel free to add to the list with anything you like about the RDS in the comments below! And as always COYBIB.

Secret garden:

Has anyone else noticed the secret garden at the corner of the angelsea and north stand….. Ok so maybe its not so secret but still, I don’t have to do much research to tell you that there are not too many rugby grounds across the globe with one of these bad boys!

Hedges:

Why? F**k you – that’s why! You wont see delicately manicured rows of hedges lining the playing area in too many other spots…. They are the best beer holders in the world too!

The Parade Ring:

For the 49 seconds of the rugby season when its warm enough to sit in the open air; you better believe there is nowhere better that the parade ring. Pint, Cone, Sun, impending Leinstertainment – what could possibly be better?

The rest of the year:

For the rest of the year however, The RDS is more well known as being the coldest place on earth. In 2011 it was inducted into the Guinness book of world records for this – temperatures dropped to almost -80C at points during a visit of the Newport Gwent Dragons many fans reported.

Ratios:

In particular the Bar:Person ratio. This key figure can fall to as low as 1:4 in deepest winter. You also see the critical inclusion of Hot Whiskey at these times.

The Craic:

The real reason it is such a great place is the Craic!: With the right mixture of entertainment and suspense, mixed with some of the best fans in the world and none of the above really matter! Looking forward to another great year of games at the RDS watching the boys in blue!

Laighin Abu!

Niall.
